The Environment Agency of Northern Ireland is a conservation agency for Northern Ireland Executive in the Ministry of Environment. Unlike other similar bodies in England, Scotland and Wales, which aims to promote and preserve the natural and built environment and to promote appreciation of present and future.
Northern Ireland has nine areas of outstanding natural beauty, 47 national nature reserves, 43 SACs, SPAs and 10.
There are 181 monuments, designed to treat the state in Northern Ireland, and about 1,700 in the total number of monuments.
Before July 1, 2008 was the Agency for the Environment and Heritage Service.
