Hnutie DUHA (Czech, translated into English as the movement of the rainbow) is an environmental movement in the Czech Republic, the largest in the country (2005 (update). The move was a member of Friends of the Earth International in the Czech Republic since 1994.
Hnutí Duha founded in 1989 by a group of students in Brno, Czechoslovakia just before the fall of the power of the Communist Party and officially registered non-governmental organization is 28 September 1990 as Hnutí Duha - Přátelé Země Česká republika (Rainbow Movement - Friends of the czech Republic , Earth Republic). Since then it has grown into a large organization, eclipsing other environmental organizations (like Greenpeace) in the country. Among the best known are members Kotecký Vojtech and two of the founders of Jan Jakub Beránek and Patočka. Several members of the Duha Hnutí became prominent members of the Green Party of the czech Republic, but the business is nominally independent of political parties.
Since 2007 update organization employs about 30 people in the center of Brno and Prague, a smaller amount. Ten branches throughout the country (the first in Olomouc in 1991). A large number of volunteers, usually students, participates in the activities Hnutí Duha. Affairs rejects a hierarchical formal structure, and wants to work on a task-oriented, semi-autonomous groups. 2005 budget was less than 11 million CZK (in recent years this number has steadily declined). About 60% of the funding comes from foundations (such as the Heinrich Böll Foundation), and about 15% of the grants of the Czech state. The rest is made up of individual contributions and benefits for the organization's web-based publishing house. Movement organizes protest campaigns (eg a long campaign against the Temelin nuclear power plant in the 1990s), provides an environmental impact assessment for the evaluation process and new legislation, offers ecological services for individuals and communities and encourages the use of renewable energy technologies. He helped to stop or slow down several major construction projects (such as a new highway in southern Bohemia and the expansion of lignite mining in northern Bohemia).
Hnutie DUHA is one of 30 national organizations like the Friends of the Earth Europe is united and in Europe.
