Greening Australia is an Australian environment that was founded in 1982, the International Year of the tree to protect, restore and preserve the native vegetation of Australia. Greening Australia was formed by the United Nations Association of Australia and the Nursery Industry Association of Australia.
In 1980, the decrease in forest cover has been recognized as having a serious negative impact on agricultural and pastoral productivity. The removal of forest cover has also been associated with the development of the degradation of soil salinity, and decreased erosion and water quality. During the World Environment Day in 1982, then Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser announced the creation of the National Tree Program, which aims to reverse the decline of trees in Australia. Greening Australia provided the arms of the non-governmental National Tree Program. With representation in each state and territory and a national office in Canberra, Greening Australia has become the main objective of the projects of NGOs trees.
Greening Australia has been involved in many projects, large-scale revegetation and restoration in Australia since its inception, including the National Tree Program, the project of one billion trees, support Bushcare Corrdiors National Green Corps and Green Florabank. The focus of his work lies in the provision of trees and tree planting services, technical assistance and education, volunteer coordination and funding of restoration projects.
