Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF)

The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MEF) is a government department in India. The Minister of Environment and Forests held cabinet rank as a member of the Council of Ministers. The portfolio of the Ministry is in the hands of Jayanthi Natarajan, Union Minister of Environment and Forests who is assisted by two Ministers of State.

The ministry is responsible for planning, promoting, coordinating and supervising the implementation of environmental and forestry programs in the country. Ministry's main activities include the preservation and study of flora and fauna of India India, forests and other wilderness areas, prevention and control of pollution, afforestation, and mitigation of degradation earth. It is responsible for managing national parks in India.
