Inter-Tribal Environmental Council (ITEC) was established in 1992 to protect the health of Native Americans, their natural resources and the environment. To achieve this goal, ITEC provides technical support engineering, and environmental education in various disciplines. Currently, over forty ITEC member tribes in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas.ITEC is an example of an Indian Pan-Indian organizations and efforts.
ITEC Office is a full-time staff of 25-2, that organize and provide services to individual tribal member of ITEC. In addition, they help the individual tribes of other environment-related issues and concerns that arise.
The Cherokee Nation, as the lead agency in the ITEC has been at the forefront of protecting natural resources, health and the environment for tribal communities. With their five stationary air monitoring stations and station mobile air monitoring, the largest tribal system owned and operated its kind in the United States, data on environmental quality for rural communities and tribal.
ITEC has received funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
